qstat tool to view current Hansen queue usage
When running large parallel jobs, there is often a trade-off between runtime (sped up by requesting many cores) and long waits in the queue. This is especially a problem if the walltime is set to a high estimate because the actual time required is uncertain. A tool that queries the Hansen queue and returns information on the number of jobs, their sizes (number of cores), and their remaining time, as well as the number of available free cores, would enable users to optimize their resource requests and better anticipate time-to-results.
Since this task would only require a query to the scheduler and not a job run, a dashboard widget that regularly updates usage or has a refresh button (to minimize unnecessary traffic) would be even better.
